Contrary to thinking, it is nice to grow old
Now can disregard advice and things we are told
Time to kick off our shoes to just sit a spell
No need to worry if things do not go well

Admire our family, only we know they are so grand
Smile when things go wrong, pretend we understand
A time to enjoy old songs and an old movie
Without pretending to be cool or groovy

No need to worry about making money for retirement
We just grew right past that burdensome requirement
Our attitudes develop to now just who cares
For things we do are our own private affairs

We do silly things and wear clothes out of style
People excuse us as being just a little senile
We know and understand the silly things we have done
But we enjoy it, so let others also have a little fun

As each New Year adds another one gone by
It gives another smile, another twinkle in the eye
It is nice being young and adventurously bold
But still better,  just slowly growing old
