When I was a child, Halloween was always an exciting time to dress up, put on a mask and go “Trick or Treating.” But it was also kind of scary!

We didn’t do many tricks when I was little. Most often, adults came to the door and tried to guess who we were or asked us to sing a song or do a stunt. It was more than a case of throwing candy in a sack and running to the next house.

Artists were taken with the endless possibilities Halloween offered. The best artists produced cards for this market in sets, and today collectors pay some of the highest prices for them.

You may expect ghosts, goblins and other spooks on Halloween cards. This card depicts a pumpkin head and other veggies for body parts.

Those of us in our 80s and 90s can only wish we were in as good shape as this 104-year-old card.
