I wandered alone on a beach one day
There I saw a small child at play
In the rocks
And sand
Examining each in her hand.
She reached out to touch everything near
And carry it to her mouth to find
"What have we here?"

I watched her grow by leaps and bounds,
And other interests she soon found.
The sea
And the beach
No longer held the excitement it had in the past
And she went her way to dance
And play on the grass.

Now the years have come and gone
The grass once green has turned to brown
So now walk again along the beach
It's lonely,
Empty
Dark and bleak.
The wind is blowing up the sea
But all, now again,
Seems so beautiful to me
For now I've returned
To the beach.
