Selma Opie

Selma Opie

In 1973, Dr. Opie began a series of continuing education classes for seniors. From this modest beginning, her career blossomed. Selma became an advocate for seniors, speaking at senior centers, senior living communities and service clubs. She created an AA, or certificate program, in gerontology to help service the growing number of seniors in our society. At Palomar College she was a designated counselor for older adults returning for more education. She retired from the staff in 1995 as a professor emeritus.
